Heavenly Moments of Hygge

Just in case you're unfamiliar with the Danish concept of Hygge (pronounced 'hoo-ga'), essentially, it is a feeling of contentment and cosiness. It's stopping to enjoy and create moments of bliss. It's as wonderful as it sounds and should be felt, rather than described.

There's a misconception that hygge is simply to get us through the winter but now that spring is on the horizon, I've compiled seven ways to inject hygge into your life, one precious moment at a time.

Slowing Down

We seem to do an awful lot of rushing and whilst it's good to be busy, slowing down is just as important. My favourite Saturday mornings involve a late start, a latte and a magazine. Sometimes, the best plans are no plans at all.

Fabulous food

If cooking is what calms you, why not hop onto Pinterest and search out a recipe that you've been intrigued by but haven't tried yet.

When I want to indulge, I head straight for pasta. So when I have time, I’m going to try this spicy prawn linguine that I found on The Mother Cooker.

If you’re vegan or gluten-free, head over to Purely Amy. Her blog is packed full of amazing recipes and ideas.

Reading

I’ve been a huge fan of reading for as long as I can remember. In all of the busyness of life, it can be hard to carve out reading time but we’ve made a priority in the studio.

This amazing arm chair is the Strandmon from IKEA. We’ve affectionately nicknamed it ‘The Chair of Dreams’ because it really is the ideal spot for a snooze.

Fresh Air

Now that the lighter nights are making an appearance, walks are high on my weekend agenda. Why not take a notebook, and see what springs to mind, when you give yourself thinking space?

Better still, grab a friend and go for a stroll. Why not reward yourself with hot chocolate at the end?

Bubble Baths

There's something about bubble baths that instantly chill me out. I have a habit of taking my iPad with me but lately, I'm trying to just 'be' - I like to get in the water and try my best to empty my mind completely.

Craft

Now, as much as I love interiors and a spot of DIY, I wouldn't myself a crafty person. However, here's a quick idea to create a pretty light feature that you can take anywhere with you.

Ever wondered what to do with your leftover candle jar, or a spare mason jar in your house?

Grab yourself some battery operated fairy lights, pop them in and away you go. I love this idea because it's easy, quick and costs less than £5!

Hygge is for all of your senses. Use the hashtag #honeybeehygge to share your moment of bliss.

See you next time,

Melissa xo
